Objectives:
- Apply what you have learned through studies of information systems to clients' projects in an effort to make small businesses more successful.
Responsibilities (Can be Learned on the Job):
- Maintain and build information systems
- Maintain and setup networks
- Maintain and build Web sites, including HTML design and server script programming
- Maintain internal networks (including Windows XP Professional and Debian GNU/Linux computers)
- Serve as webmaster for web sites
Requirements for Position:
- Must be resourceful and willing to find solutions to technical problems
- Must be willing to learn new things and ready to accept challenging projects
- Must be capable of stepping into and effectively working on projects using a mix of the following (prior knowledge of all subjects is not required, but aptitude for quickly learning needed material is highly beneficial):
- PHP, JavaScript, SQL, Linux (Debian and Red Hat), Perl, Macromedia Dreamweaver, HTML, XML, CSS, CGI
- Linux/UNIX system usage and administration experience a plus
- Must have plans to remain at current college or university and plans to continue with current area of study.
- Must demonstrate some ability to build solid web applications in a web environment
- Must be currently pursuing a technology related degree
- Ability to assume role as "webmaster" of a web site
- Ability to locate resources in order to tackle a problem or acquire a new skill
Qualifications Which will Improve Chances of Being Hired (Not Required):
- Past experience building and maintaining commercial web sites
- Past experience setting up and maintaining internal company networks.
- A general interest in open source software.
Work Scheduling:
- Specialists typically work 10-20 hours a week, depending on personal schedule and the number of hours needed by the company.
- More hours may be setup for time periods when classes are not in session.
